Asha Sonawane, the founder and guiding force behind Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, Sanstha Nandurbar, is a compassionate leader whose life has been dedicated to serving those affected by HIV/AIDS. With more than 18 years of continuous service to the community, she has been at the forefront of advocacy, healthcare access, and social empowerment for people living with HIV (PLHIV).
Her journey began with a simple yet powerful vision—to ensure that every individual living with HIV receives not only medical care but also dignity, respect, and opportunities for a better life. Through her leadership, Sanstha Nandurbar has grown from a small grassroots effort into a recognized community-based organization that partners with state and national programs to bring change at both the local and systemic levels.
Asha has been instrumental in initiating and expanding projects such as the Vihaan Care & Support Center, Targeted Interventions for high-risk groups, and various nutrition, education, and women’s empowerment programs. Her work bridges healthcare, social welfare, and economic empowerment—ensuring that PLHIV are not defined by their diagnosis, but by their resilience and potential.
Known for her empathetic approach, Asha regularly engages directly with beneficiaries, visits rural communities, and advocates for policy reforms. She believes that awareness, education, and community solidarity are the strongest tools in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Her unwavering dedication has inspired countless individuals—staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries alike—to join in building a more inclusive and supportive society. Under her leadership, Sanstha Nandurbar continues to embody its motto: With the people, for the people, by the people living with HIV/AIDS.
